Unsettling Concerns of a Woman and a Doctor

Today as we celebrate the 78th independence day in our country, the doctor community nation wide also mourns the brutal rape and murder of a fellow doctor in Kolkata.

As our heart bleeds for the victim, mobs are attacking the doctors protesting for justice!

Why is it at that even after so many years of independence women are still  victims of heinous crimes and doctors are soft targets for assaults?

Many aspects and narratives are emerging behind the cause of the incident, however the fundamental question still remains. How long  will it take for men to consider women on par? How long will we remain the weaker sex and how long will we be targets of such heinous crimes?

Another aspect to mention here is the mob attack on silent protestors. How can people be so heartless that instead of joining the protests they have attacked the ones seeking justice! They clearly appear to have been misguided! Is democracy to be misused in this way? Is this the way our freedom fighters imagined India 78 years later?

This is not only for the administrators but also for the common man to introspect and find the cause where things have gone wrong.

As the fight for justice continues, what are we doing to protect the women and doctors of the country.

The doctors have always been a soft target for patient and relatives to express their anger.  So much so that many have moved to countries with better securities or changed their professions all together. Imagine lack of critical care doctors in a country with an ever growing population, where medical care is sought for minimal expense.

Thus this Independence day I wish all my fellow countrymen to make a resolve to protect the women of the country and think twice before using violence as a means to seek justice.  Always make use of the judicial system rather than violence.

Let’s make the country safer for our future generations. Everyone deserves freedom  from fear and crime so as to live life to the fullest and contribute to the growth and prosperity of the nation and humanity.

Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!
