Batling cancer with a smile

I have a patient recently diagnosed with breast cancer .  She recently completed her  radiotherapy and is on chemotherapy at present. But more than the illness it was her spirit that lured me. Her fighting attitude, her endurance and the never fading smile on her face dazzled me at every visit.

I saw her the day she detected a lump in her breast. What followed were a battery of tests, admissions, waiting for reports, biopsies, more waiting…finally culminating in a surgery for excision of the mass.

But this was just the start. Repeated Radiotherapy sessions, waiting lines, the pain and side effects managing the home and treatment she persevered with a smile. Never complaining about the long queues,  the struggles, the agony and emotional turmoil, her attitude to life was always positive.

Now as she continues her chemotherapy  I find myself in awe at the determination she exhibits in the worst of circumstances.
