Embracing Death

Death is an ultimate reality from which none can escape. The moment we are born we know we will die. The breaths in our lifetimes are numbered and every passing moment we are moving one step closer to it.

However, instead of dreading or worrying about the inevitable we need to accept it as a fact of life and conduct life responsibly.

The ancient yogis of Bharat were well versed in the science of birth, death and beyond. They were such experts that they could decide a suitable time and place and leave the body peacefully without causing any pain or harm to the body. The hindu traditions compare the body to garments which are worn and discarded at will. However, this is not to be confused with suicide wherein the body of the person is harmed or broken such that it becomes incapable of sustaining life.

Personally I believe that a person on a spiritual path can reach the stage of the ancient yogis under the guidance of an enlightened guru and regular Sadhana leading to living a fruitful and happy life celebrating every moment in eternal bliss and when the time comes embracing death with a smile on his face for a life lived to fulfilment and death a necessary interlude.
