Hacks for a Happy Mindset

What positive emotion do you feel most often?

Emotions are reflections of our state of mind. Sometimes we may start the day with a positive note, however the events throughout the day can make us anxious, stressful or sad. Or it can be vice verse, we may have a bad start but may end up feeling happy and rejuvenated towards the end.

Why do our emotions fluctuate so often? What is responsible for the change in our mental status?

There are many aspects to this but the most common factor that affects our mood is our interaction with people and the environment.

For example say you started your day today feeling very low. However you got out of bed and managed to pull yourself to work. On the way you met a stranger who complimented you on your choice of clothes or the necklace you are wearing. So how will you feel? Most of us will be transformed by this small encounter with a stranger who added some positivity to our day. We would feel less low and gloomy as compared to before.

Another example is you start your day in high spirits however your boss finds a way to yell at you and it crushes your mood for the whole of next week.

So did you notice that our moods and emotions can change with the kind of interactions we have with the people around us or the situations we are in. Like for example you win a lottery ticket you are on top if the world but if you lose a expected  promotion you go into depression.

So what is the way that we can be unaffected by the people or situations and thus be happy  most of the time?

Here are some ways that work for me to keep me in high spirits

  1. Know that you are unique and you are loved and no matter what someone thinks or says that is his opinion which may not be reality. Or if you feel there is some reality in it accept it with humility And try to work on the shortcomings.

  2. Create healthy boundaries: Do not waste your time and effort living upto the expectations of some one who will never be satisfied with you

  3. Try to distance yourself from the emotions and observe them as though they are clouds sailing in and out of your mind. This will help keep you centred and focussed without losing yourself to the emotions

  4. When necessary take time and deal with them. See how the emotions are reacting to your attention. Writing your thoughts is a good way to free your mind

  5. Meditate . This will help you Keep your mind centred and create a balance in your life

  6. Selfless service : find a way to help someone in need. Helping someone helps you realise how blessed you are and instantly elevates your mood.
