My mother, My inspiration

Although happily retired now my mother was a working woman throughout her adult life. Being a mother of four, motherhood is a journey she endured through lots of ups and downs. Almost 8 years of her adulthood was spent in either pregnancy or being post partum. Yet, she managed her job, home and children to the best of her abilities. Also managing to complete her graduation in the mix.

The challenges of motherhood are myriad and every mother has her own coping mechanism. But all go through a tough time when the duties are all too overwhelming and difficult to manage. A time when self care  takes a backseat and family responsibilities run in top gear. However most women get lost in this system and lose their individual identity all together. Her success and failure gets tied to that of her children and she herself doesn’t realise the sacrifice she has done.

But my mother being a strong and independent woman showed us the way to be self reliant and never to let your wishes and desires get lost in the race of life. She nurtured us to be well cultured and respectable members of the society. It is through her efforts that all of us are well settled in our lives and continue to persue our passions.

Motherhood does require sacrifice and putting your family first, but it doesn’t require you to let go of your dreams and aspirations. In fact, your tenacity and will power is a moral boost and motivation to your children who then aspire to similar and greater potentials.

In addition to climbing to the top spot in the ladder of her career she is also a writer and Poet. She is a culinary enthusiast, a businesswoman  and a great grand mother. Yes she does have her stern ways but she has her soft acts too.

I know I owe my moral and cultural etiquette to the upbringing my mother provided us with, but I also owe my independence and career decisions to her too.

Thus, all mother’s out there need to come out and realise that your desires and dreams can be achieved no matter what your age or stage of life you are in. You only need a strong sense of purpose and determination to act in the right direction.

Interview someone — a friend, another blogger, your mother, the mailman — and write a post based on their responses.
