What TV shows did you watch as a kid?
During my childhood the television was a prized commodity. Hardly few people had them. Neighbors used to gather around to watch the news and favorite tv serials. The most popular ones were the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Having one channel and a common favorite made our TV time special.
In addition to providing entertainment these serials enhanced our knowledge of our culture. Especially in a time when urbanization was fast taking over and the grandma stories were a rare treat. These serials in such times kept people connected to their roots and also helped visualization of stories passed down through generations.
However today we have the luxury of so many entertainment options at any time we desire. However, what are we doing to educate the younger generation of our rich culture? Are we feeding them with stories from our puranas or are they binge watching entertainment that has no moral values and learning or worse the ones that promote violence? Have we enrolled them for classes thar improve their traditional legacy like classical musics or instruments or are we just too busy to bother what content they are exposed to?
We as parents need to ponder on these aspects so that we raise children who are proud of their culture and rich heritage.
