The epitome of human life in today's world- Arjuna

Arjuna was a warrior, the best archer from the Mahabharata times. But even after being a king he faced struggles that we cannot fathom.

Little did he know that when he hit the eye of the moving  fish from an image reflected in a bowl of water and won the hand of Draupadi in the swayamvar that life would take a different turn altogether.

What followed later was exile for 13 years, with one year in disguise and not stopping here the burning of their palace through which they had to escape. Although all the pandava brothers went through the same turmoil I revere Arjuna more As he was the recipient of the Bhagavad Gita right from Lord Krishna himself and that too on the battlefield of Kurukshetra!

He is believed to be the ideal as far as a spiritual seeker and devotee is concerned. His dilemma in killing his own relatives inspite of being on the enemy lines speak of the humanity and struggles within him. How he was ready to forget and forgive the wrongdoings so that bloodshed was averted.

I find my life to resonate with Arjuna’s insecurity and despondency on a very deep level.  The struggles of day to day life, decisions of choosing one over another and maintaining a balance between responsibilities,  duties and right action.

In such trying times of indecision and confusion having a guiding light in the form of a mentor or guru or deity helps to tide over situations and take the right steps towards a desired result.

However, getting there is not easy.  Being Arjuna is not easy. To get there we first need to learn the act of surrender. Surrender to the powerful force of creation.  Understand that we do not know everything. There is so much that we do not fathom. Once  our minds are empty of the ego and preconceived notions only then can it be replenished with knowledge and wisdom.

The Bhagavad Gita depicts Arjuna, a king bowing down in surrender to lord shri Krishna, in a gesture of being open to the knowledge to be received.

Similarly we need to cast aside our pride, ego and misunderstandings,  preconceived and misguided thoughts and actions and surrender to the higher power knowing that only the best will come our way as long we believe so.

If you could meet a historical figure, who would it be and why?
