Laziness, fear and anxiety. These are the ghosts that ghost away our life. We are so engrossed in these emotions that we forget to live and experience the beauty of life.
Bhawad Gita Chapter 14.verse 8 states:
“O Arjun, tamo guṇa, which is born of ignorance, is the cause of illusion for the embodied souls. It deludes all living beings through negligence, laziness, and sleep.”
It means that people influenced by tamo guna (state of darkness or inertia) lose their ability to differentiate between right and wrong. They neglect their duties and resort to immoral behaviour. Doing so they lose their spiritual identity and life goal and dwell deeper into darkness of ignorance.Laziness stops us from hard work and reaping it’s fruits.
Swami Vivekananda said,”All this is our work, our fear — fear, the beginning of misery, of disease, etc. By being nervous and fearful we injure others, by being so fearful to hurt we hurt more. By trying so much to avoid evil we fall into its jaws.”
Fear is the play of our mind. It restricts our experience of life. It stops us from taking the first step towards success. In fear of losing someone we fail to speak out and in doing so our life becomes miserable.
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar says,”Nothing in the world can bother you as much as your mind. In fact, others seem to be bothering you, but it is not the other, it is your mind.”
Anxiety and worry always keep us on edge. We continue to be anxious of the past and worry about the future missing out on living in the present.
So this Halloween let’s leave the ghosts out and live the life we dream free from laziness, fear and anxiety. Happy Halloween!
